Working Party Comments

Dear Secretary
We would like these statements to become effective immediately and have them sent to the new captains for distribution, either organize a members meeting to hand out or to be distributed by the new captains ASAP.

Commitment

Additional requirements by the “working party” to work in conjunction with the rowers view.

  • If continued lack of attendance persists, the captain takes the individual to one side and discusses what will be the next step.
  • Turning up is a must to get into a racing crew.
  • Distinguish between whether they want to be a social rower or a competition rower.
  • At least 2 weeks notice needs to be given by the captain for the next up and coming regatta and also two weeks notice will be needed by the selected crew for the next regatta.
  • Also to train together within that crew towards that regatta.

Rowing Style

  • We will all be rowing from now on with 'one hand under and one hand over'.
  • We need to speak to Caradon and discuss dates so all club members who wish to, can go and gain knowledge from a proven method.
  • Cox needs to highlight faults within the crew he is rowing with and the working party want to see more coxes become coaches (ie. joint role).

Pre-Race Season

All information in this part of rowers view has been agreed but with some reservations.

In Season Selection

All agreed but depending on regatta and circumstances i.e. C crew or B crew not mixed to make an A crew as this will demoralize rowers if they come in last by any margin

Off The Water

Ergo times OK to proceed with, i.e.2k, the only thing we think is unclear is the weight scenario, so all rowers will use ergo on same setting over 2k course.

Coaching/Coxes

Coach and cox very much the same person.
The working party want to implement that from now on, training sessions will consist of :-

  • 1 stamina row
  • 1 row consisting of starts and turns including oar tossing
  • 1 technique and general row.

All of the above will change on weekly basis working on tides and weather.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Blades

  • Blades will be taken from the holding area and laid within the boat from the car park and also on the return to the car park.
  • This in turn will prolong the life of the blades and reduce the risk of damage and injury.
  • Len to train novices from this time on and if help is needed, Len will request this help through the committee/members meeting.
  • Len from this day forward will be responsible for working out all rowing times and crew slots.
  • The cox/coach will take full control of the boat at all times and his word is final whilst crew is in the water.
  • Emma will be taking over the B crew as their cox, requested by crew after the Scillies this year.

Cox Training

These names have been put forward for cox training, we as the working party would like this to start asap:-

Names Siann, Kay, Sue, Leanne, Inga

Fun Day

  • We have requested a fun day be organized, we need to look at weather and tides and these need to be looked at by the fundraising committee.
  • Social drink at Christmas with all club members
  • Invite Boscastle/Bude/Ilfracombe/Torridge and Clovelly to sprint races in Appledore together with fun races

Pins

All broken pins to be paid for after the row has finished and a book of payment to be held.

Coxes

  • All coxes need to be notified if coxing, prior to a regatta, not on the day as this causes all manner of confusion.
  • A printed Hand out will be issued 2 weeks prior to regatta day, this will include coxes, rowers and seat positions.

A.G.M.

The working party feel that there was a hostile atmosphere within the A.G.M. and that this needs to stop, as new members were very intimidated by this and actually stated that they will not be coming any more.

Regatta Day

  • All crews will meet at a designated place and time, which will be organized by the Events Organizer, also people who tow the boats.
  • From there the club will pitch up and stick together as a club
  • The boat will be unloaded by all club members, not just some of the crew
  • The boat will be made secure before and after a race, before the crews leave.
  • All club members will stay to help put the boat onto the trailer at the end of the regatta unless given permission by the captains.
  • The Working Party would like the club to go to regattas together, so that we start as a club, row as a club and leave as a club.

We hope that this all goes toward bringing the club back to how it used to be and that we start as we mean to go on !

This will be reviewed by the Working Party as and when needed .................
